Music and literacy go hand in hand! Your child learns so much about fluency, tracking, rhyme and rhythm just from being in music class and all of these skills can help them with reading.
We often read, move, act out, listen, and sing to stories in music class. Below are some of our favorites!

In Kindergarten we read the book "Pouch". We each got turns acting out the story, and playing the story on drums!
In Kindergarten we loved reading the book "10 In The Bed"! We learned how to sing the song and had fun acting the story out!
In 3rd grade the students learned the song "Don Gato". The students were divided into groups, and each group member had to write one of the verses and illustrate a picture that went along with their verse. Click the button to hear a group from Mrs. Rehmann's class perform.

3rd grade students learned a new chant called "I Eat My Peas With Honey". We practiced reading the chant fluently together, and then added some drums to practice keeping a steady Macro-beat. In the future will be be practicing the chant while keeping the Micro-beat and Macro-beat at the same time!!
This is a fabulous book to introduce instruments and instrument families to young children! We especially love learning how to count "musically" too! We got to make the instrument families with Zoo Pal plates while working together in a group!
